How it all started...
First Baptist Church of Welcome was first known as Welcome Baptist Church; a house church on Thomas Road which met for a year before being constituted with 12 charter members as an official church in October 1911. Reverend A. Keller of Wallburg was called to become the first pastor of a church that would soon have it's own building just months later; a white, one room building heated with woodstoves on either side of the room.
Expanding the vision...
Over the next couple decades, the church flourished and by 1957 church membership had grown to 254 members. With that growth came a need for more space and construction was underway.
... Still Expanding
In 1971 the church changed its name to First Baptist Church of Welcome. FBC had once again outgrown its space and the church decided it was time to buy another, property and by may, 1975 the ground was broken and a new building was built and by 1990 the church needed more additions with a membership of 855 Christians.
More important than a building
First Baptist church has had a rich history of bringing people to the foot of the cross where they committed their lives to following Jesus Christ. We have become a staple in the community; a light on a hill, and a place which sponsors Christian growth all over the world.
